Am 21. Februar 2025 veröffentlicht Cruel Nature Records ein Doppelalbum der namibischen Musikerin Emmaleen Tangleweed, das zwei ihrer bisherigen Werke auf einem Tape vereint: “Songs From The Unseen, The Unsaid and The Unborn” (2022) und “The Sun Will Still Shine When You Die” (2023). Mit ihrer außergewöhnlichen Stimme und einer beeindruckenden Bandbreite an Instrumenten erzählt Emmaleen Geschichten von Verlust, Hoffnung und existenziellen Dramen, die sich in ihrem markanten Stil entfalten. Die heute in Südafrika lebende Sängerin und Mehrfachinstrumentalistin beherrscht Banjo, Resonatorgitarre, akustische und klassische Gitarren, Bass und Percussion mit einer beeindruckenden Virtuosität. Ihre intensive Stimme reicht von zarter Fragilität bis zu beeindruckender Kraft. Unterstützt wird sie auf einzelnen Tracks von Gavin Bonner (Schlagzeug), Ashanti Azure, Sadek Ezzideen und Ruari Patrick McKee (Gesang) sowie von Lliezel Ellick, deren Cellospiel auf “Wailing Trees” eine besondere Atmosphäre erzeugt. Die Songs verbinden nahtlos verschiedene Stile und Einflüsse. Von der Dramatik des Blues und Anklängen an orientalische Tonalitäten über pastorale und subtil barocke Momente bis hin zu spanischen Spielweise auf der Akustikgitarre verschmilzt alles zu einem einzigartigen Klang, der sich gängigen Schubladen entzieht. In Tracks wie “Bone House” oder “Bluebeard” zeigt sich besonders deutlich die Bandbreite ihres Schaffens, das von introspektiver Melancholie bis zu hymnischen Ausbrüchen reicht. Das Album wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit Ruan Vos (Sonic Nursery) aufgenommen und produziert, der auch den Mix beider Alben übernahm. Das Artwork stammt von Nina Kay Duplessis.
