Azita Youseffi oder kurz Azita bringt acht Jahre nach “Year” und ein Jahr nach der EP “Shooting Birds Out of the Sky” ihr neues Album “Glen Echo” beim Chicagoer Drag City-Label heraus. Im Unterschied zu den meisten ihrer früheren Aufnahmen hat die Künstlerin die Musik diesmal komplett ohne Begleitung weiterer Instrumentalisten eingespielt, ebenfalls neu ist ein deutlicher Schwerpunkt auf Gitarre und eine Abkehr vom Keyboardsound der letzten Alben, was einen stark zu einem Singer-Songwriter-Feeling beiträgt. “Glen Echo” erscheint in allen gängigen Formaten am 5. Ganze acht Jahre ist es her, dass sich die Chicagoer Sängerin und Musikerin Azita Youssefi mit einem Album (“Year”, Drag City 2012) ins Gespräch brachte. Nach einer langen Pause, in der sich die Amerikanerin mit iranischen Wurzeln stark auf ihre Lehrtätigkeit konzentriert hat, ist mit dem Song “Shooting Birds out of the Sky” ein erstes Lebenszeichen auf Bandcamp gestellt worden. Es handelt sich dabei um einen entspannt vor sich hin groovenden Downtempo-R’n'B-Track, der beim genaueren Hinhören eine unmissverständlich melancholische Note durchdringen lässt.

In the eight years since AZITA’s last long-player, her fevered brain has barely rested, and the proof is a new song of unbounded activity, entitled “Shooting Birds Out Of The Sky”! “Shooting Birds Out Of The Sky” is a languorous R&B groover couching a pessimistic plaint – but this time, it’s our relationship to everything that’s on the rocks.
