Bei The New Wave of Jazz erscheint dieser Tage der Konzertmitschnitt eines von der flämischen Pianistin zusammengestellten Freejazz-Ensembles aus dem Londoner Café OTO. Die Besetzung des vor gut einem Jahr stattgefundenen Auftritts bestand neben Verhoeven selbst aus Andrew Lisle (Drums), Benedict Taylor (Bratsche), Cath Roberts (Baritonsaxofon), Charlotte Keeffe (Trompete), Colin Webster (Altsaxofon), Daniel Thompson (Akustikgitarre), Dirk Serries (E-Gitarre), Tom Jackson (Klarinette) und Tom Ward (Bassklarinette, Flöte).

Ihr Konzert eröffnet ein vielgestaltiges und vom Tempo und der Klangfülle her wechselhaftes Narrativ, das in mehr als einer Stunde durch zum Teil unwegsames Terrain führt und immer wieder auch sanfte Gefilde streift. Das Album erscheint auf dreihundert CDs und zum Download. Das Albumcover, gelayoutet von Rutger Zuydervelt, basiert auf einem Gemälde der Künstlerin Gina Southgate, das während des Konzertes live gemalt wurde und somit im direkten Bezug zur Musik steht.

Joshua Abrams und seine Natural Information Society bringen im elften Jahr ires Bestehens ihren sechten Longplayer heraus, diesmal in Zusammenarbeit mit dem britischen Improv-Saxophonisten Evan Parker. Das One Track-Album “Descension (Out of Our Constrictions” von 75 Minuten Spieldauer ist gleichsam ihre erste Live-Aufnahme und wurde bei einem Konzert im Londoner Café OTO aufgenommen. In seiner (gerne als psychedelisch bezeichneten) Überblendung aus Einflüssen des Jazz, traditioneller Musikarten, Ambient und Minimal Music knüpft das Album an frühere Aufnahmen an und enthält neben Parkers Sopran-Saxophon von Abrams eingespielte Guimbri-Parts sowie Harmonium, Perkussion, Bassklarinette und diverse Soundeffekte. “Descension (Out of Our Constrictions” erscheint Mitte April als CD und Doppel-LP bei Eremite Records und Aguirre Records. Ein Auszug des Tracks ist bereits in einem Video von Bandmitglied Lisa Alvarado zu sehen.

Yuko Araki: Live-Mitschnitt aus dem Cafe OTO London

Die japanische Noise-Musikerin und Multiinstrumentalistin Yuko Araki bringt einen Mitschnitt ihres letztjährigen Konzertes im Londoner Café OTO heraus. Anlässlich ihres Tape-Albums “II” tourte Araki letzten Herbst durch mehrere europäische Länder und eröffnete in London einen Abend mit Negativland mit einer knapp halbstündigen Soundscape aus prasselndem, rauschendem Lärm. Die Aufnahme wird vom neu gegründeten Label der Tokyoter Konzert-Location Ochiai Soup über Bandcamp herausgebracht.
“Yuko Araki started playing piano when she was a small child and in her teenage years was inspired by hardcore and metal music, but she soon became really eclectic and took on a diverse range of projects, including drummer of the oriental/tribal dream psych band Kuunatic and founding members of the Neo classical noise duo Concierto de la Familia and her solo project: harsh noise drones layered by analog synthesisers, cymbals and samples of Japanese traditional instruments creating abstract rhythms and dissonant harmonies that sound like a noise orchestra.

In early 2019 she released her first EP “I” for the Indonesian label Gerpfast Kolektif and performed for Cherry Music and Sakura Festival in Denmark, Jogja Noise Bombing festival in Yogyakarta in Indonesia, DAO XUAN International festival in Vietnam and toured Europe for the first time. After signing with Italian brand new boutique tape label Commando Vanessa, Araki announced the release of her debut album, titled “II”, out on tape and digitally on 17 October 2019. With “II”, Yuko Araki delivers an album of multifaceted noise fused synthscapes mixing pulsating rhythmic sound frequencies and powerful synthetic sonic layers. Her exceptional sensibility in processing extremely heavy and dense sounds makes the result sounding like nothing else you heard before: a thousand leaves oscillation sound at the same time rooted in Japanese noise but also totally different.
