Der Titel verbindet die griechische Bezeichnung für Sprachlosigkeit (Aphasie) mit dem italienischen Ausdruck „a fasi“ (in Phasen), was die zunehmende Zerklüftung unserer Welt und unseres Erlebens widerspiegeln soll. Das Album spiegelt dabei die Gefühle von Dissoziation und Fragmentierung wider, geprägt durch die chaotische gesellschaftliche Lage und die digitale Überflutung. Es ist ein introspektives Werk, das die Grenzen zwischen Erinnerung, Wahrnehmung und Kommunikation auslotet, und lädt den Hörer ein, in eine vielstimmige, zerfallende Klangwelt einzutauchen. “The violin remains at the heart of Masotto’s compositions and is supported by viola, shamanic drums and analogue synths, all of which gain more space and importance than ever before. In fact, the sounds of her Prophet Rev 2 and Moog Subsequent 37 envelop the string melodies that guide each piece, while her experimentation with affected violin – the result of a decade of work – adds further sophistication and helps distinguish the album in all-new ways. More than any previous work, The Spirit Of Things conveys the true emotional impact of Masotto’s music. It is one that has taken inspiration from shamanic practices which she has studied since 2021 after experiencing her own ancient shamanic journey which led her to find her spirit animal. As such, the album represents a metaphorical journey in an invisible world – a new perception of the essence of life and nature that combines both ancestral and mysterious sonic elements.

Each track on the album started with Masotto creating a loose framework on analogue synths. “I wanted to create a musical space in which I could be free to improvise,” she says. “This allowed me to let my emotions flow in an unconditioned way and allow the tracks to be born organically in their own sacred space as I search for a connection between the spirituality of the earth, animals, and human beings through music” (7K!). Masotto tourt den Frühling über durch mehrere europäische Länder, im deutschsprachigen Raum ist sie am 31. Mai im Jeanaer Trafo zu sehen, ebenfalls gut erreichbar wäre am 19. Juli das Schweitzer Floating Notes Festival.
