Musikalisch erweitert Czocher ihr Instrumentarium deutlich, perkussive Spielweisen auf dem Cello verbinden sich mit Moog-Synthie, elektronischer Bearbeitung und erstmals auch mit eigenem Gesang. Als Bezugspunkte nennt Czocher Komponisten wie Johann Sebastian Bach und Zoltán Kodály sowie zeitgenössische Figuren wie Max Richter und Steve Reich. Dobrawa Czocher, ausgebildet an der Chopin-Universität in Warschau und der Hochschule für Musik im westphälischen Detmold, arbeitet als Solistin, Kammermusikerin und Orchestermusikerin. Bekannt ist auch ihre Zusammenarbeit mit der Pianistin Hania Rani, mit der sie mehrere gemeinsame Veröffentlichungen vorgelegt hat. Ihr Solodebüt erschien im vorigen Jahr unter dem Titel “Sonata For Solo Cello: Joanna’s Tale”. “State Of Matter” erscheint als LP, CD und zum Download.

Dazu heißt es bei Modern Recordings: “While composing it, the author asked herself a question about a possible common denominator for Nature and Music – notions, which at first glance seem quite different. Interchange, correlation, fusion and cycles became themes which she decided to illustrate with sounds. Each ecosystem consists of various life forms, co-depending on, influencing each other and being the system’s co-creators – the same way as sounds, harmonies and melodies, from the early composing stages, create whole compositions – musical ecosystems. In later stages, upon playing the composed piece by a musical ensemble, the musicians are intertwined with each other by their senses: hearing and sight, as well as being connected on the emotional level. Without collaboration, harmony or reciprocity, nature dies. Isn’t it the same when music faces insensitivity for those aspects?

The idea for performing this piece was an unusual arrangement of the musicians – instead of placing them close, the priority was put on their comfort and they were seated slightly away from each other. That way the cellists had to pay particular attention to each other, to what their music line conveys, and to where it takes them next”. Czocher wird ihr neues Material in den nächsten Monaten auch live präsentieren, u.a. steht am 16.12. auch ein Termin im Berliner Silent Green auf dem Plan.
