Ende des Monats erscheint das schlicht “Nova” betitelte neue Album des preisgekrönten norwegischen Violinisten Erlend Apneseth. Es handelt sich dabei um das erste Album seit neun Jahren, bei dem Apneseth als Solist an der Hardanger Fiddle ohne Begleitung arbeitet. Auf “Nova” lotet er die klanglichen Potenziale des Instruments in den Räumlichkeiten des in Oslo gelegenen Mausoleums des Künstlers Emanuel Vigeland aus und setzt dabei neben eigens komponierten Passagen auf Improvisation. Die Möglichkeit, mit einem einzigen Instrument eine beeindruckende Opulenz erzeugen zu können ist eine Besonderheit die der Musiker an der Hardangergeige schätzt: “The Hardanger fiddle is traditionally a soloistic instrument. For me, one of the most fascinating things about the instrument is its ability to fill a whole room with sound all by itself. Even though I’ve been working in an electro-acoustic universe the last years, I’ve never left the acoustic approach to the Hardanger fiddle, and I now felt the time had come to do something all alone again”. Apneseth betrachtet “Nova” als ein stark persönlich gefärbtes Album, dessen Titel zahlreiche Facetten bündelt: “It’s a title that covers the different aspects of the album. The sound of the room gives it all an almost cosmic character, a feeling of being levitated or in another sphere. To me it is first and foremost a symbol of the human being. In China they called them guest stars: small newly arisen lights on the night sky, visible for a short time, then receding into its original form. Das norwegische Erlend Apneseth Trio, an dem neben dem namensgebenden Geiger noch Gitarrist Stephan Meidell und Drummer Øyvind Hegg-Lunde beteiligt sind, bringt Mitte März und somit knapp zwei Jahre nach “Salika, Molika” ein neues Album heraus. “Lokk”, das als Soundtrack von einem Tanz-Ensemble in Auftrag gegeben wurde, zeigt das Projekt von seiner rhythmischsten Seite und kombiniert den Improv-Folk des Trios streckenweise mit tanzbarer Elektronik. Das Album erscheint als LP, CD und Download bei Hubro Music. Der Titeltrack ist bereits erhältlich.

“Originally commissioned by FRIKAR Dance Company to accompany the performance of a new work, ’Skaut’, dealing with the covering of the body in different cultures, the music of Lokk takes the trio further than ever before into completely fresh areas of electro-acoustic improvisation. The sounds of their original instruments are integrated with electronic beats and treated textures to form a kind of enhanced digital-folk style whose influences stretch from traditional south Asian ragas to contemporary dance culture from around the globe. The result is intense, and intensely rhythmic, music where the normally separate realms of the cerebral and the corporeal can appear to fuse into one irresistible groove. As the trio rocks on – in a dream of perfect interplay between instruments and players, soloists and ensemble – deep, trembling sub-bass intersects with ethereal ambient soundscapes.
