Der Komponist und DJ Yair Etziony bringt mit “Further Reduction” ein neues Album heraus, das nicht nur in musikalischer, sondern auch in inhaltlich-thematischer Hinsicht an das im vorigen Jahr erschienene “We Were Here Before, And We Will Be Here After” anknüpft. Während sich “We Were Here…” den langfristigen Veränderung seiner Wahlheimat in Berlin-Neukölln nahe des Tempelhofer Feldes widmete, geht der in Israel geborene Musiker auf “Further Reduction”, dessen Cover dieses ein Foto dieses Feldes ziert den vergleichsweise rapiden Veränderungen nach, die sich im Zuge des aktuellen Lockdowns ereignen – dem in seiner letztendlichen Tragweite kaumabzuschätzenden Herunterfahren weiter Teile des Alltagslebens und dem Verschwinden von Unternehmen und Freizeitangeboten. Als Ausdrucksmedium entschied er sich für eine beatlose Eletronik, die zwischen Ambient, dunklem Industrial und kosmischen Ansätzen rangiert. “Further Reduction” erscheint als Download Ende April.

“2020 was a crippling year for the majority of us. Through the death, displacement and cultural slowdown, we had to reassess what was important and work out how best to make it through. All art made in this period has been impacted by the shifts 2020 brought on the world, so why deny it? Yair Etziony wrote Further Reduction after returning from Israel to his home of Berlin in September last year. In his own words, something in him “snapped” as he realized that many of the places he knew and loved had simply stopped existing. His response to this was to write music, but retreat from his usual comfort zones. Instead of relying on production trickery, this time he wanted to keep things “bare bones” and reduced everything he did to a minimum: fewer effects, less reverb and fewer channels. Yair Etzioni und Rani, die um die Jahrtausendwende in Tel Aviv das Elektronik-Duo Faction betrieben und ein Album veröffentlicht hatten, bringen, nachdem der Longplayer über Jahre vergriffen war, eine vielfach überarbeitete und mit alternativen Tracks ergänzte Neufassung davon über False Industries heraus. “The End of Tel Aviv Redux” rangiert zwischen melancholischen Ambientflächen, sauber produzierten IDM-Strukturen, Samplekollagen und weiteren Ideen aus der Welt experimenteller Elektronik.

Mit einem dicken Bündel an Field Recordings, Erfahrungen in klassischer Musik und Multimedia sowie einem soliden Ideenfundus im Gepäck hat der Musiker ein hypnotisches Erstlingswerk auf die beine gebracht, das an eine Wanderung durch tropische Wälder gemahnt und abei doch frei von jemdem Exotismus ist.“The seven compositions have a very unique and coherent touch to them, it’s like walking in a dark forest, enjoying the aurora of the phenomena around you and soaking deep into the energy of the forest but not in a conventional way. Rite is a project about hearing things differently, the core ideas of the album have their roots in classical contemporary music. The compositions have the desire of elevating the sound itself as the protagonist of the piece, shifting one’s attention from regular instruments to non-musical sounds. The 6 tracks frame a place and a time in which different actions happen, with the main focus being to present sounds in the most interesting and fascinating way, highlighting the characteristics which intrigued the composer’s ears.
