Im Begleittext heißt es: “In Sawt, Bodies, Species, Gilles Aubry offers an account on sonic pluralism in Morocco across a wide domain of activities, including archives, music, art, healing, and ecology. “Sawt,” in Arabic, literally means sound and voice. Sound in Morocco thus intimately relates to the body; it never quite corresponds with its modern Western counterpart as a phenomenon separable from the other senses. Sonic pluralism recapitulates Aubry’s attempts to think sound and aurality together with modernity and (de-)coloniality. The transformative power of sonic pluralism is expressed in people’s acts of listening and sounding, aimed at questioning and shifting social conventions.

On the level of ecology, sonic pluralism reveals extra-human agencies that mediate between people and their environment. Drawing on critical Sound Studies, ethnographic research, and artistic practice, Aubry’s dense descriptions are complemented by audiovisual essays created in collaboration with musicians, artists, and scientists”.

Originally released as a CD in 2013 by Idiosyncratics, this is the 2xLP version of Monno’s “Cheval Ouvert”, featuring a new artwork by Ben Sanair, housed in an offset double sided 64x64cm multi-fold-out “origami” artwork, sealed by a screen printed band. White & Purple and White & Gold colored vinyls. This edition was cut, folded, assembled and numbered by hand and by the sweat of our brows in a pure DIY spirit! Limited to 319 copies, including download code. Published by Le Petit Mignon and worldwide distributed by Staalplaat.

After sharing the bill with fellow musicians like Knut, Isis, Jesu, Lightning Bolt, Melt Banana, Zu, Asva, Todd, Shit & Shine, Marduk or Tony Conrad on the occasion of the 150+ concerts given over the last years, drummer Marc Fantini, bassist Derek Shirley, electronic musician & vocalist Gilles Aubry and electrified tenor sax maestro Antoine Chessex felt the need to come back to studio work. Results a powerful though dark and introspective piece of pure sonic radicalism. CHEVAL OUVERT immerses the listener into a brutal typhoon of intense abstraction. A wild ride on a furiously galloping horse that finds itself torn into pieces by human destruction. Monolithic stabs of distorted saxophone, infinite loops of electronic madness and the devastating pairing of a melting low-end bass and mammoth-like drums resulting in a rock solid wall of ancestral evoking frequencies.

Besides a still expanding 7″ and tape release series started in 2009, this is the first edition published in the 12″ format by Staalplaat instore imprint Le Petit Mignon!
