“Reading Music is a platform for collaborations within the field of experimental music. The project seeks to gather and create synergies between composers and improvising musicians with an interest in open-ended graphic scores and/or other hybrid scores and the performing arts. We wish to arouse curiosity and deepen the understanding of contemporary music in general, and encourage new approaches and cross-aesthetic collaborations. In line with this ambition three pieces – by Hanna Hartmann, Nomi Epstein and Michael Pisaro-Liu – were commissioned by Reading Music in 2018 and we are very proud to present the work, our reading of their scores, all gathered on this phonogram. When translating these scores into sounds we ended up being both lost and found – a rewarding artistic process of translation and transformation between medias and disciplines. We hope that you too will get at least a little bit disoriented in translating these sounds if navigating with previous hearing experiences as your compass.” (Reading Music)
