Gerade mal ein Vierteljahr nach dem vorausgegangenen Longplayer “Grave Era” erscheint Ende April bereits ein neues limitiertes Tape des britischen Soundkünstlers Poppy H. “Confidence of Crisis” knüpft an die verhuschte Dunkelheit und die spontane Hand der Recyclers früherer Arbeiten an – im Vergleich zum Vorgänger sind die drei unterschiedlich langen (und in puncto Stimmung, Färbung und Aufgeräumtheit von rauschhaft bis glasklar eine große Bandbreite einnehmenden) Tracks hier aber insgesamt rhythmischer ausgefallen und entfalten eine z.T. mit Beklemmung einhergehende Hypnotik, der man sich – v.a. beim ausladenden “Cry Sis”, das gegen Ende nochmal auf verstörend-elegante Weise seine Taktung wechselt – kaum

entziehen kann und zum Glück auch nicht muss. Beim Label Cruel Nature heißt es: “On the eve of releasing a record that just wasn’t right and an imminent long work trip to Japan – taking him away from his instruments and equipment – Poppy H flew into a frenzy of new beats, recycled improv pieces and original compositions speaking to “an overwhelming feeling that the world is closing in on itself, like a glove turned inside out”. Am 1. Februar erscheint mit dem Tape “Grave Era” ein neues Album des englischen Klangkünstlers und Multiinstrumentalisten Poppy H. Das Album, bei dem auch die letztgenannte Bezeichnung deutlich zur Geltung kommt, basiert in Teilen auf dem Einsatz von Field Recordings und Samples, die mit dem Mikro seines Telefons aufgenommen, anschließend am gleichen Ort bearbeitet und dann zu intrikaten Kompositionen verknüpft wurden. Trotz ihres bisweilen hypnotischen und entrückt anmutenden Charakters erweist sich die Musik auf “Grave Era” keineswegs auf rein schöngeistige Wohlfühlmusik, sondern offenbart in ihrem Abwechslungsreichtum durchaus treibende, kantige Seiten, während Instrumenten wie Piano und Gitarre zum

Teil untypische Klänge entlockt werden. Das Label Cruel Nature betont v.a. die außer der Musik liegenden Referenzen, spricht von “a line in the sand between domestic and global conflict” und fährt fort: “in a world where overpriced flat whites and skinny lattes are served against a rolling backdrop of death, destruction and displacement. A class war rages externally and internally as H moves around the UK capital voyeuristically bottling fleeting exchanges, an outsider looking in, before heading to the eastern most point of the country to chant aloud, and onto his own living spaces where the familiar assault of modern appliances and construction work meet melancholy and hauntingly hopeful passages of improvised and crafted electronic and acoustic compositions”.
