Schweigeminute für Lou Ottens bei Staaltape

Als Hommage an und Nachruf auf den am 6. März dieses Jahres verstorbenen Ingenieur und Erfinder der Kompaktkassette (und CD) Lou Ottens hat Staaltape-Chef Rinus van Alebeek eine Schweigeminute in Form eines zehn Tracks umfassenden Albums produziert. Alle Stücke bestehen aus zwei jeweils 30 Sekunden umfassenden Teilen, die mit zwei verschiedenen Walkmen von Sony gespielt wurden. Das Album erscheint im Download auf dem Bandcamp des Labels. Staaltape ist der Tape-Ableger von Staalplaat und besteht seit 39 Jahren.

“On Saturday 6th of March 2021 Lou Ottens passed away at the age of 94. Lou Ottens invented the compact cassette. The novelty was presented at the Funkausstellung in Berlin on 31th of August 1963. In 1965, based on a patent that guaranteed compatibility, Philips made the technology available free of charge to manufacturers all over the world. Ever since then 100 billion compact cassettes have been sold. That’s a lot of kilometers of tape.The one minute silence is made in two parts. The first thirty seconds are played by a Sony walkman TCM-200DV , the second thirty seconds are played by a Sony walkman pro. nfortunately I don’t have a Philips cassette player.” (Staaltape)

Rinus van Alebeek und Kris Limbach live aus dem Berliner TiK

Die von Seiji Morimoto kuratierte Konzertreihe Experimentik beginnt das neue Jahr am Donnerstag, den 20. Januar mit einem gemeisamen elektronischen Set von Rinus van Alebeek und Kris Limbach. Der einstündige Auftritt wird um 21 Uhr live aus dem TiK (Theater im Kino e.V.) gestreamt.

“Rinus van Alebeek is a writer and dictaphone experimentalist. He is the curator of the revived (since 2010) Staalplaat’s cassette label, Staaltape. He is also alongside Adrian Shephard the founder of the Berlin-based radio Radio On. [...] Kris Limbach is a sound and visual artist. In his sound art work he uses film-editing techniques, prepared drums, tape manipulation, no input mixing and a vast amount of raw and processed fieldrecordings. His audiovisual performances involve live super8 and video stream manipulation with instant scoring, an arte povera approach to expanded cinema. Currently he is working on his experimental dystopian feature film Ohnmacht.” (Experimentik)

Am 19. Juli findet zum fünfzehntenmal und erstmals nach dem Lockdown die Berliner Multimedia-Veranstaltung Atmo_sphäre statt, bei der in drei Aufführungen Musik akustischer und elektronischer Machart auf Aktionskunst, Tanz und Dichtung trifft. Die Veranstaltung findet im Projektraum “backsteinboot” auf der kleinen Havelinsel Eiswerder, nördlich der Zitadelle Spandau, statt.
“A t m o _ s p h ä re is a territory of collective divergence, a presentation that shows us the orientation that experimental creations take today, a dialogue between creators, between the sounds that are created and developed in the common territories of the contemporary music, sound art and new performative images offered by the city of Berlin. Structurally, it focuses on presenting music with classical instruments, together with the new ways of generating music from the electronic, plus the forms of action art or action poetry. All this at the same level of importance, thus generating a multifocal performance.”

Mit “No” setzt Rinus van Alebeek seine im April begonnene Tetralogie an Kollagenarbeiten fort, die primär auf gesampleten Sounds und Spoken Words, dem Inhalt alter Musiktapes und deren feinsinniger Bearbeitung basieren. Die Reihe, auf der sich cheesiger Konsummaterialismus mit hörspielartigen Passagen, Bandsalat und kantigem, verrauschtem Lärm wie selbstverständlich ineinander fügen, erscheint digital bei Staaltape.
