Am 27. Oktober erscheint unter dem Titel „The Stone Tape – Analysing A Ghost By Electronic Means“ eine Hommage an den 1972 von der BBC gezeigten Film The Stone Tape, in dem einige Wissenschaftler in ein vermeintliches Spukhaus einziehen, um herauszufinden, ob die Steine des Hauses die Fähigkeit besitzen, vergangene Geschehnisse aufzunehmen.Das Drehnbuch des Films stammte von Nigel Kneale, der u.a. die Figur des Bernard Quatermass erfand, der in einer Reihe von Hammer-Filmen Unheimliches erlebte. Dieses Pseudonym benutzte dann John Carpenter, als er an „Prince Of Darkness“ arbeitete.

Zum Jubiläum des Films bat Hidden Britain eine Reihe von britischen Künstlern von The Stone Tape inspirierte Stücke zu komponieren, u.a. The British Stereo Collective, The Hardy Tree und Drew Mulholland.

„The result is a 16 track tape compilation which blends reimagined theme tunes and Radiophonic incidental motifs with dark ambience and hauntological synth explorations.“

Die Zusammenstellung erscheint als auf 150 Exemplare limitiertes Tape und in einer Auflage von 50, der ein Risodruck beiliegt.

Common Grounds: Neue LP von The Hardy Tree

In den nächsten Tagen erscheint die neue LP von The Hardy Tree, ein folkig angehauchtes Ambient /Sound Art-Projekt der Musikerin und Illustratorin Frances Castle. Die neun berührenden Stücke auf “Common Grounds”, an dem einzig der Mehrfachinstrumentalist Ed Deegan als Gastmusiker mitwirkt, entstanden zu Beginn des ersten Lockdowns Anfang 2020 – einerseits unter dem schwermütigen Eindruck einer relativen Isolation und des Versuchs einer Neuorientierung, andererseits als Resultat einer Neuerkundung der eigenen persönlichen Umgebung, die auch immer wieder in Form von dezenten Field Recordings direkt in der Musik anwesend ist. “Like many others with nowhere else to go, I walked the streets of my neighbourhood for exercise and well-being” schreibt

die Musikerin. “I began to see the ghosts of the people who had lived here before me, and notice the things that they had left behind; shapes of ancient tram tracks creeping under the tarmac, an old gas street lamp in an alleyway, a tiny metal sign indicating a culverted river. I spent my evenings writing and recording the music on this LP, and then the following day would listen to the rough mixes as I walked, the music began to soundtrack the walks, and the walks began influencing the type of music I was creating”.
