Ahead of July: Neue LP von Pipeline

Mit “Ahead of July” legt das italienische Ensemble Pipeline eine neue Live-Aufnahme vor, die als LP, CD und zum Download bei WE Insist! Records erscheint.

Das siebenköpfige Ensemble – Giancarlo Nino Locatelli (verschiedene Klarinetten), Gabriele Mitelli (Piccolotrompete), Sebi Tramontana (Posaune), Alberto Braida (Klavier), Luca Tilli (Cello), Andrea Grossi (Kontrabass) und Cristiano Calcagnile (Schlagzeug, Perkussion) – präsentiert vierzig Minuten vollständig frei improvisierte Musik.

Locatelli beschreibt die Entstehung des Projektes in seinen Liner Notes folgendermaße: Eigentlich sollte ein Trio die “Kakuan Suite” spielen, stattdessen stellte er die gesamte Besetzung vor eine leere Seite und vierzig Minuten, die ohne Vorgaben, Partituren oder Referenzen gemeinsam gefüllt werden mussten. Freie Improvisation mit großer Besetzung, so betnt er, gilt vielen als riskant bis beinahe unmöglich, Locatelli wäre aber sogar bereit, auch ein weniger gelungenes Ergebnis zu akzeptieren.

Das Ergebnis betont den orchestralen und kollektiv ausgerichteten Charakter des Projektes und hat einen stellenweise chorischen Schwerpunkt. Die Aufnahme entstand am 19. Mai bei We Insist! Live in der Casa delle Arti in Cernusco sul Naviglio. Zum Download liegen zusätzlich Radio-Edits bei.

7 rocks: Gemeinsame Improvisationen von Enrico Fazio und Giancarlo Nino Locatelli

Für Freunde der Improvisation und Jazzer ohne Scheuklappen: Die beiden Musiker Enrico Fazio (Kontrabass) und Giancarlo nino Locatelli (Bassklarinette) haben die Aufzeichnung einer gemeinsamen Improvisation von 2014 aus der Kiste geholt und über We Insist! Records der Veröffentlichung zugedacht. Das Album trägt den Titel “7 rocks” und erscheint am 6. Dezember auf CD.

“This is the whole improvisation session we had on the evening of 25 April 2014, after a day spent recording some duets for Enrico’s project Girotondo. In the afternoon I had recorded with Mario Arcari “La prostituta e il soldato”, one of his compositions. The next day I was going to record my song “Il soldato e la cameriera” with Alberto Mandarini.
So, during the evening break, after years of not playing together anymore, a little bit on my insistence, because Enrico seemed to want it too, we went back to the studio, and we put ourselves in an unusual position, very far away.

How nice to meet again.
And in this way.
In the midst of fresh, intense and light music, full of surprises, rich in dependent independence or independent dependence.

The only intervention we have done besides mixing is to invert the first and the second track.

Expeditions: Vielfach instrumentiertes Soloalbum von Paolo Galba Riva

Der im Jazz sozialisierte Klangkünstler und Multiinstrumentalist Paolo Galba Riva, oft apostrophiert unter dem Kürzel PGR, bringt mit “Expeditions” ein Album heraus, das seine Erfahrungen an unterschiedlichen Orten der Welt musikalisch wiedergeben soll. OGR hat ab einer Mailänder Akademie das Bassspiel gelernt, später später studierte er in Holland und Norwegen und verschiedene Blasinstrumente spielen, Elektronik und Soundmanipulation kam hinzu.

Seitdem gab er solo und in Kollaborationen Konzerte in Japan, China und anderen asiatischen Ländern sowie in den USA. Mittlerweile wieder in Italien lebt er eher zurückgezogen auf dem Land. Aus all diesen Regionen hat er Stilelemente und Spieltechniken kennengelernt, die sich in der Musik auf “Expeditions” wiederfinden, dessen musikalische Bandbreite folglich groß ist und experimentell fordernde, z.T. noisige Passagen enthält. Das Album erscheint als CD bei We Insist! Records.

Cats in the Kitchen: Trio mit Alberto Braida, Silvia Bolognesi und Cristiano Calcagnile

In den nächsten Tagen bringen We Insist! Records eine gemeinsame Aufnahme des Jazz-Trios Alberto Braida (Piano), Silvia Bolognesi (Kontrabass) und Cristiano Calcagnile (Drums) heraus. “Cats in the Kitchen”, das auf einfachen Grundmotiven basiert, geht laut Braida auf die Erinnerung an ein Bild seiner jungen Tochter zurück: “When my daughter Maddalena was very young she drew a picture, a cross between a circle and an empty ellipse, between green and blue on the white paper. I asked her what it represented and she told me: a man flying.

Remembering that drawing many years later, I wrote a series of simple, naïve, almost childish pieces that were circular like the drawing, so that they could end and start over and over again without interruption.” Trotz dieser Ausrichtung betont Braida seine Entscheidung, die Umsetzung für spontane Überraschungen offen zu lassen: The decision not to fix and define any indication about the development of the themes in the improvisation parts that follow them responds to the personal need to leave open any possibility of surprise that comes from risk, listening and deep trust.” Das Album erscheint digital und als CD.

“Three cats on the wire, seemingly on the verge of falling and unexpectedly and surprisingly find themselves standing firmly on their feet. Music that is only apparently simple, like the children’s drawings, but then reveals itself to be rich in details and particulars. The three cats play with the same ball of wool and they leave each other, the ball of wool seems to have disappeared, each one seems to go his own way but the ball of wool reappears in the middle of the game. The game is ball, the ball is thread, the thread is the cats and the cats are ball: what a wonderful tangle!” (We Insist! Records)

Rain, Ghosts, One Dog and Empty Woodland: Soloalbum von Gianmaria Aprile

Der italienische Musiker, Verleger und Publizist Gianmaria Aprile, der selten solo auftritt und dafür umso häufiger in Combos wie Luminance Ratio, Pipeline 3, Pipeline 8 und Ultraviolet Makes Me Sick spielt, hat seinen ersten Longplayer in Eigenregie aufgenommen. “Rain, Ghosts, One Dog and Empty Woodland” ist eine psychedelisch angehauchte Nachwanderung durch eine imaginäre Waldlandschaft und zieht seine atmosphärische Tiefe aus den unprätentiösen Klängen der Gitarre und der Guqin oder Qin, einer in der traditionellen chinesischen Musik verbreitete Zitherart.
