Wie schon auf früheren Veröffentlichungen arbeitet Josefson mit elektronischen und akustischen Instrumenten sowie mit Field Recordings und metallischen Sounds, die teils an frühe Tape-Experimente von Xenakis erinnern. Glöckchen und rasselnde Klangobjekte verleihen dem Material einen rituellen Charakter, während Klaviertupfer und entrückte Gesangspassagen eine fragile Melodik andeuten. Das Ergebnis ist ein dicht verwobenes Klanggeflecht, das dunkle Dröhnung mit klassischen Akzenten kontrastiert. Schon das vorangegangene Werk “Topography Of Frequency And Time” (Drone Records 2024) wurde auf unseren Seiten als “dicht, geheimnisvoll und von einer eigentümlichen Unruhe durchzogen” beschrieben – ein Eindruck, der sich auch hier fortsetzt. Das Album erscheint als LP, CD und zum Download.

Konzeptionell wird „Topography Of Frequency And Time“ beschrieben als „an expedition through expansive sonic landscapes that stretch beyond our daily awareness. It serves as an open invitation to transcend the visual confines of physical space, encouraging a deep dive into the unexplored realms of sound and time. This album seeks to chart the uncharted territories of our auditory experience, intricately mapping the intersections of three-dimensional space within the frequency and time domains.”

Genau 70 Minuten dauert der eine Track, aus dem das Album besteht. Das Stück beginnt kaum hörbar, um sich dann nach und nach in eine dunkle, aus vielen Schichten zu bestehende Dronelandschaft zu entwickeln. Es gibt Momente, die zeitweise metallisch schabend klingend – vielleicht ließ das den unermüdlichen Frans de Waard in seiner Besprechung einen Vergleich zu Organum ziehen. Was hier auffällt, ist die Dichte und Verdichtung der einzelnen Sounds und Klangschichten, und auch wie es gelingt, melodische Passagen in diesen Klangsud zu integrieren. Man fragt sich zwischendurch: Sind das akustische Instrumente irgendwo in der Ferne? Etwa Blasinstrumente? Dann wieder gibt es Augenblicke der Zurückhaltung, nach gut 20 Minuten ebbt der Track etwas ab, die Lautstärke wird reduziert.

Dem gesamten, nie beliebig klingenden und atmosphärisch dichten Stück wohnt durchgängig ein Moment des Seltsamen, des Mysteriösen und der Unruhe inne und es passiert viel auf diesen 70 Minuten. Die die CD zierenden collagierten Bilder sind in ihrer leichten grobkörnigen Unschärfe eine durchaus passende Illustration dieser nicht ganz greifbaren Musik. (MG)

They consistently develop their previously chosen direction, defining the nature of the latest publications for Reverse Alignment, where the dense, tarry sound material accompanying his work gives way to drone but extremely spatial compositions, based on a whole range of warm and ethereal sounds, emanating from the rich instrumentarium, numerous samples and field recordings.
