Lontano: Neue EP von Telekaster

Ende September – und somit gerade mal ein halbes Jahr nach dem Album “Tracing Back The Stream” – erscheint mit “Lontano” die neue digitale EP von Telekaster, dem Soloprojekt des u.a. von zahlreichen Theater- und Tanzscores er bekannten Komponisten Matthias Grübel. Das Minialbum besteht aus einer in fünf Movements unterteilten Meditation über das Begehren nach einer in der Ferne liegenden Schönheit auf der Basis von Gitarrenklängen und ihrer verschiedenartigen Bearbeitung. Das Resultat ist ein beeindruckendes, melancholisch eingefärbtes Ambientwerk, das unterschiedlichen Zitaten oder deren Fata Morgana

(Kosmische Musik, Smooth Jazz, Neoklassik, Cinematisches) Raum gibt. Dem Thema – “a feeling of projecting yourself into distant places, the longing for something beautiful far away” – entsprechend wurde auch in der Komposition und Aufnahme der Musik auf spontane Improvisation in Echtzeit gesetzt: “The respective variations were improvised around one hypnotic melody and recorded live in a couple of nightly sessions. The results were edited into their final shape straight after – as a deliberate attempt to create music in the moment without much post-production and overthinking”. Die EP erscheint mit eigenem Artwork beim hauseigenen Label Empanada Musik, ein Teil ist bereits im Stream zu hören.

Tracing Back The Stream: Matthias Grübel reanimiert Telekaster

Der Berliner Producer und Komponist Matthias Grübel, der in den vergangenen Jahren v.a. unter seinem eigenen Namen elektronische Musik herausbrachte, belebt sein seit rund zehn Jahren pausierendes Projekt Telekaster neu und bringt Anfang März ein neues Album heraus. Mit Telekaster geht Grübel seinem Interesse an ambienten Strukturen und der Atmosphäre “kosmischer” Musik nach und stellt die Gitarre als Klangquelle deutlich ins Zentrum der oft mollastigen Stücke, deren melancholisch-epischer Zug schon oft einen Querverweis zum Postrock der Jahre nach 2000 nach sich zog. Das zeichnet sich auch auf “Tracing Back The Stream” ab. Beim Label heißt es: “It is a guitarist’s album, who likes to move into other spaces with his instrument. It is also an ambient record that offers an angular perspective on the genre itself, both in sound design and composition”. Zugleich wird die Vielgestaltigkeit der Musik betont: “It features eight new pieces taking you on a evocative and dynamic journey. This 40-minute trip stretches from the mysterious zero-gravity spirals of tracks like Aurora or Sun to the wide plateaus of Lago and Norden and the beautifully cascading post-rock epicness of Purple. And let’s not forget the intimate acoustic swells and swarms of a piece like Atlas!” Das Album erscheint als LP und digital bei Empanada Musik, die Stücke “Purple” und “Sun” sind bereits erhältlich.

Futuro: Neue EP von Matthias Grübel

Ziemlich genau ein Jahr nach “Matters of Stability” bringt der u.a. im Theater- und Hörspiel-Kontext bekannt gewordene Matthias Grübel eine weitere EP unter seinem eigenen Namen heraus. “Futuro”, dessen fünf feinsinnig gestaltete Track ein weites musikalisches Panorama in den Grenzbereichen von Techno, IDM und schwerer Elektronik eröffnet, enthält anrührende Vocals von Felix Räuber (Polarkreis 18) und die durch den Vocoder geschichte Stimme von Mea Lux. Zum Eisatz kommen Ableton Live, Native Instruments Reaktor, Novation Bass Station II, Korg MicroKorg XL, Waldorf Blofeld, Fender Jazzmaster, Fender Concert Amp und diverse Effekte.

Matthias Grübel, der seit den frühen Zweitausendern als und mit Phon°noir, Telekaster und Phonofix verschiedene elektronische Musik produziert und sowohl bei Hörspielen als auch bei Theateraufführungen mitgewirkt hat, bringt Mitte Mai eine weitere EP unter seinem eigenen Namen heraus. Das mit einer Handvoll Gastmusikerinnen eingespielte “Matters Of Stability” präsentiert eine unberechenbare, oft brüchig anmutende Musik und integriert u.a. rock- und bluesartige Elemente in den elektronischen Kontext.
