Allem Minimalismus zum Trotz sind Herausforderungen auf dem Album Programm: “Pleasure Pressure is full of extreme frequencies that push against the limits of what is sonically possible, a series of unexpected twists and turns that nonetheless feel distinctly and uniquely part of Colley’s repertoire”. Nun erscheint mit „Acting As If“ sein Beitrag zur Substantia Innominata  von Drone Records, die auch hier schon häufig Thema war. Von Labelseite heißt es: „His newer compositions seem always to be filled with electro-magnetic hummings, strange hissing and the pourings of metallic objects as a basis, but you never find the use real instruments, synths, or masses of effect procession. Thus a very own scent of mystery appears, as all of these radiations are not really from this planet, without any ‘cosmic’ connotations.“

Die erste Seite der von Meeuw gestalteten 10” beginnt kaum hörbar mit einem entfernten Brummen: „Limit // Limit“ war ursprünglich  von Francisco Lopez für die Ausstellung “Audiosphere” in Auftrag gegeben worden. Colley erzeugt ein Brummen und Dröhnen, Kratz- und Knistergeräusche, ein zirkuläres Surren und Schaben, in dem man zeitweise meint, Wassergeräusche zu hören. Im weiteren Verlauf werden die Klänge hektischer, lauter und verdichten sich, um dann plötzlich abzubrechen. Die B-Seite „Always I / Always II“ beginnt direkt etwas lauter, fast so, als solle unmittelbar an das Ende der A-Seite angeschlossen werden: Das ist eine brodelnde Klangmasse, die sich aber nach und nach zu einem in Passagen fast schon unruhigem Ambient reduziert, bevor dann wieder dissonante metallische Passagen einsetzen. Auf beiden Seiten gibt es Momente, in denen der oben angesprochene „scent of mystery“ manifest wird. (MG)
