Der chinesische Instrumentalist und Experimentalmusiker Liang Yiyuan bringt ein neues, primär auf dem Einsatz verfremdeter Yangquin-Klänge basierendes Album namens “Thing Loses Itself” heraus. Das Yangquin ist ein u.a. in China verbreitetes trapezförmiges Hackbrett, dessen Wurzeln im vorderen Orient liegen. Ursprünglich mit dünnen Klöppeln bespielt, wählt der 1977 in Wuhan geborene Liang Yiyuan trotz einer immer noch starken Nähe zu klassischen Strukturen verschiedene experiemntelle Spielweisen, bearbeitet das Instrument mit z.T. untypischen Objekten und versieht seine Saiten mit zusätzlichen Materialien – “Some bamboos, woods, and iron clips were clamped to the strings during the recording. A violin bow, several small iron boxes, springs, drumsticks, and other metal objects were also used, to create a special timbre”, wie es beim Label heißt. “Thing Loses Itself” erscheint als CD und Download bei WV Sorcerer Productions.

“After his early years of painting, [Liang Yiyuan] started to compose music in the late ’90s. He has published more than twenty albums so far. Instruments used include guitar, yangqin, violin, guqin, bawu, etc. He follows his own path of unconventional playing techniques and original timbre. He is involved in making various kinds of experimental music and free improvisation.
