Unter dem Titel “Chorologie I” bringt das französische Fougère-Label eine 2CD-Compilation heraus, das die vor zwanzig Jahren begonnene Diskografie des belgischen Musikers, Dokumentarfilmers und Weltreisenden Tzii mit einem Überblick feiert, “to celebrate the creative experiences of a sound explorer determined to abolish borders”. Tzii hat in der Vergangenheit bereits bei Fougère veröffentlicht, zahlreiche andere Releases erschienen bei Labels wie Cheap Satanism, Tiny Speaker, Trasponsonic, Treue um Treue, Zamzam und nicht zuletzt beim eigenen Night On Earth. An den hier ausgewählten Tracks wirkten zahlreiche Gäste mit, namentlich es Liina Nilsson, Anne Fidler aka Poppy Cox, Andrea Ev (1997ev), Léo De L’Estaque (Niedowierzanie) und Nouchka Durma. Ein Merkmal von Tziis Werk ist, dass seine Musik auch ohne Mitwirkung anderer nie auf eine stilistische Richtung (Noise, Ambient, Minimal Wave, Rezitation, Musique Concrète, Weltmusik, Darkjazz etc.) oder auch ein Publikum (Novy Svet-Fans rezipieren seine Musik ebenso wie The Wire-lesende Discrepant-Aficionados) festgelegt werden kann und doch keineswegs erratisch klingt.

It pays homage to the intellectual and spiritual fundamentals that guide his career: refusal of dogmas and loyalty to the underground, industrial culture and astral cult, animism and psychedelia, the cinematographic approach and de-centered vision of an artist who has been on the road since he came to life, with an emphasis on Africa. During more than 2h30, “Chorologie I” unfolds a dense canvas of waves with a unique sensibility, beyond the variety of approaches proposed – but almost always recognizable among a thousand – by Tzii throughout the first part of his career.
