Im Mai erscheint mit “VIII Selenotrope” das achte reguläre Studioalbum des an der amerikanischen Westküste beheimateten Black Metal-Ausnahmeprojektes Botanist, auf den entsprechenden Plattformen kann bereits der Track “Angel’s Trumpet” gestreamt werden. Auf dem Album, auf dem wie gewohnt Vocals und ein für Metal untypisches Hackbrett (engl. Hammered Dulcimer) als Lead- und zugleich Rhythmusinstrument im Vordergrund stehen und die stilistische Ausrichtung noch ein Stück mehr in Richtung eines Stilhybriden zwischen BM, Prog und Neuer Musik geht, stellt Chorgesang eine wesentliche Neuerung dar.
Inhaltlich bekommt das Thema eines von Pflanzen dominierten utopisch-fantastischen Ökosystems ein neues Kapitel, in dem es hauptsächlich um Nachtschattengewächse und andere nachts blühende Spezies geht. Die titelgebenden Selenotropen sind Gewächse, deren Blüten im Licht des Mondes aufgehen. Die Engelstrompete, um die es in der Single geht, ist ein halluzinogenes und je nach Einnahme seiner Bestandteile hochgiftiges Nachtschattengewächs aus dem Regenwald Südamerikas. “VIII: Selenotrope” erscheint in verschiedenen Vinyl- und CD-Editionen bei Prophecy Productions.
