Ende des Monats und somit beinahe exakt zwei Jahre nach dem jüngsten Album “The Promise of Meat” erscheint eine neue EP von Anat Ben-David in Kollaboration Anna Dennis, James Oldham und Sean Ashton. In den fünf Stücken geht es primär um die gesellschaftliche Funktion und Prägung von Stimme und Sprache, was u.a. in Interviewform durchexerziert wird. Beim Label heißt es “Oldham and Ashton become discursive instruments: Ben-David asks them questions, and their unscripted responses form the basis of the music, engendering its rhythmic pattern. Their voices are heard only

intermittently, sometimes echoed by Ben-David’s sung quotations of their meandering thoughts, which address how speech is affected by its various social contexts”. In anderen Stücken gestalten die Sopranistin Anna Dennis und Ben-David klangliche Dialoge mit Kompositionen von Robert Schumanns sowie Claude Debussys und Pierre Loüys, andere Momente schlagen den Bogen zum Rahmen der Kunstvermittlung: “The recording also captures the conversations they have before performing: anecdotes shared about the prurient innuendo of certain male practitioners – conductors, directors, potty-mouthed maestros – encountered in their respective professions of opera singer and artist”.
