Ende April erscheint Nazars zweites Album “Demilitarize” bei Hyperdub in den gängigen Formaten. Es folgt auf sein Debüt “Guerrilla” von 2020, das Kuduro mit rauen Texturen und persönlichen Erfahrungen des angolanischen Bürgerkriegs verband. Während “Guerrilla” eine direkte, von äußeren Ereignissen geprägte Klangwelt erschuf, schlägt Nazar nun eine eher introspektivere Richtung ein.

“After Guerrilla, and in the early throes of a new and important romance, Nazar was hit by Covid and with a weakened immune system, the latent tuberculosis he’d incubated while living in Angola, took over his body and left him seriously ill for a year”, heißt es beim Label. “Reckoning with mortality and the flowering of new love are the two things that motivated this album, turning the ‘rough kuduro’ of Guerrilla inside out”. Statt Field Recordings und weiterer dokumentarischer Elemente setzt Nazar auf eine fast surreale Ästhetik, er nennt klassische Cyberpunk-Anime wie “Ghost in the Shell” als Inspiration. Die Produktion ist präzise und nuanciert, die Tracks bewegen sich in einem schwer greifbaren Raum zwischen Härte und Intensität. Das Album erscheint als CD und zum Download.
