Das aus Khari Lucas aka Contour und Omari Jazz bestehende Duo Black Decelerant bringt am 21. Juni sein Debütalbum auf RVNG Intl. heraus, es handelt sich dabei auch um den zweiten Teil der Reihe “Reflections”, in der das New Yorker Label Musikerinnen und Musiker zu interessanten und ungewöhnlichen Kollaborationen anregt. Black Decelerant präsentieren auf ihrem Debüt eine cinematische Form ambienter, jazzig eingefärbter Soundscapes, deren Reichtum an kleinen Effekten, Soundideen und Brüchen jeder trivialen Beschallung entgegenwirkt. Vom Label heißt es: “For the second volume of Reflections, Black Decelerant, the duo of Khari Lucas, aka Contour, and Omari Jazz, explore improvisational jazz traditions through contemporary tone and texture, fostering sonic meditations on themes of Black being and nonbeing, life and mourning, expansion and limitation, and the individual and collective. The Black Decelerant collaboration, and intention, creates space for listeners to be still, while providing a basis for a movement beyond “the moment.” Zwei Stücke, “two” and “five”, sind bereits zu hören: “Where Black Decelerant’s self-titled record explores spiritual jazz traditions through improvised instrumentals and sample-based production, “five” summons a moment of cascading astral echoes, distilled and melding together with sonic relics of celestial texture.
