Als “Fanaticus”  machen die drei, wie schon auf ihrem ebenfalls auf New Forces erschienen Debüt „Auris“, eine seltsame Form unheimlicher Elektroakustik. Bezüglich des Debüts wurden als Referenzpunkte „tape music from the 60s, minimal music, early industrial“ genannt und das Label spricht bezogen auf das neue Album von einer „claustrophobic exhibition of tense and curious sound.“ Das Adjektiv „klaustrophobisch“ beschreibt diese sieben, extrem merkwürdigen und unangenehmen Stücke nicht ganz falsch.

Das Album beginnt mit „Halucinatio“, einer Melange aus Rauschen, Tapeknistern, Poltern und seltsamen Stimmen, die so klingen, als habe Rudolf Eber bei den Aufnahmen vorbeigeschaut. „Dependere“ besteht aus entferntem Dröhnen und schabenden Geräuschen. Diesem (wie auch den anderen Tracks) wohnt ein Moment der latenten Bedrohung inne, die scheinbare (Un-)Ruhe vor dem Sturm. Man wartet auf die Eruption. „Chorea“ ist ein unruhiges Stück aus Knarzen und Schieben, auf „Potentia“ hört man Wasserplätschern und ein immer wiederkehrendes Wort . „Ego“ ist ein Track aus Knirschen und Quietschen. Auf „Identitas“ meint man, Dosen würden getreten, Hunde bellen, Vögel singen, vielleicht queitscht eine Schaukel, „Anakastia“ beendet das Album mit weiteren aus einer schemenhaften Zwischenwelt kommenden Geräuschen.  Das ist Elektroakustik als Soundtrack für einen Horrorfilm und eine extrem starke Veröffentlichung. Beigaben arbeitende Projekt im zurückliegenden schaffensabschnitt absolviert hat. Eingebettet in rumpelnde Klanglandschaften voller Detonationen geben die “Old Campaigners” auch Raum für verhaltenere Momente des Knarrens und Rauschens, bei denen Kjostads Kunst der subtilen Variation und Bewegung besonders deutlich wird. Das Album erschien vor einigen Monaten als Doppel-Tape bei Summer Scum und liegt in der aktuellen Edition als Einzeltape und digital vor.

“1997. I get a postcard in the mail from GX asking if we’d like to play at a show he’s setting up. Of course I said yes. I talked things over with RRRon, who had also been invited, and we decided that if we were going to fly out to the west coast, we might as well play a few shows and make a small tour out of it. I had one problem though, Shawn, who was playing with Skin Crime at the time, couldn’t go, and Marc had moved out of the area. I hated playing solo, and didn’t want to do an entire tour by myself, so the question was, who did I want to play with? The first name to come to mind was Scott from Japanese Torture Comedy Hour. We had already played a number of shows with them, and had collaborated at a show at RRR. I thought our sounds went well together, and just as importantly, since we’d be practically living together for a week, we got along well, so I asked him if he was interested in doing a small tour together with me and he agreed. Due to distance, and time constraints, we were only able to get together and practice once before leaving for tour. This is that session.” (Patrick O’Neil)

“Crafted from raw and physical recording sessions in a decaying barn, these four tracks channel the euphoric chaos of Form Hunter’s live assaults, leaving behind a crater of crumpled magnetic tape, iron filings, rusty nails, wood, rocks, and dirt”, heißt es von New Forces, die seit längerem auch das Zuhause von Kjostad sind.

Vom Label New Forces heißt es: “Desperation, malaise, dread, and melancholy are conjured up with the project’s trademark blend of tapes, electronics, and acoustic sounds. Over the course of seven tracks these approaches are woven together into a sonic spacecraft that launches towards some distant, fading galaxy”. Das Album erscheint als CD im Jewel Case und digital mit Artwork der Künstlerin Nina Hartmann.

Aber auch in einer atmosphärisch scheinbar weit davon entfernten Gattung wie Harsh Noise wurde in den letzten Jahren vermehrt auf unheimliche Literatur verwiesen, so z.B. bei Tsalal, Man denke auch an die Arbeiten von Skin Crime.

Green Tea ist das nach einer Kurzgeschichte von Sheridan Le Fanu benannte Projekt von Nick Forté, der bei Rasperry Bulbs einen sicher von Rudimentari Peni beeinflussten düsteren Punk spielt, und in den frühen 90ern mit Rorschach Hardcore gemacht hat. Gerade hat Forté auf New Forces sein Debütalbum „Snowblower“ veröffentlicht. Er selbst bezeichnet Green Tea als „psychedelic harsh noise project that merges noise techniques with ambient and new age music “. Vor kurzem wurde der Terminus des psychedelic noise noch bzgl. der finnischen Haare verwendet.

„Rabid Aura“ eröffnet das Album mit brutzelndem und verhalltem Harsh Noise, der unglaublich dynamisch ist und fortwährend fluktuiert; zwischendurch finden sich unheimlich-pfeifende Geräusche, bevor der Track mit Knirschen endet. „Throttle“ steigert und verdichtet sich im Verlauf zu einem brachialen Stück, so in etwa, als hätten Controlled Bleeding die Aufnahmesessions von „Knee And Bones“ auf Speed gemacht. „Antique Mask“ beginnt mit entferntem Dröhnen, in das nach und nach Noise einbricht. „Scented Candle Clairvoyance“ ist dagegen reduzierter und weniger eruptiv als die vorherigen Tracks: Man hört unheimliche Geräusche und Momente, die durchaus psychedelisch zu nennen sind. „Nightshade Wreath On A Stranger’s Door“ kombiniert reduziertes Gebrutzel mit unheimlich-flächigen Sounds im Hintergrund, bevor dann Noise einsetzt. Vielleicht kann man sich so einen Harsh Noise/Dark Ambient-Hybrid vorstellen. „Garden Shed Coma“ knüpft daran an, während „Cold Scrape“ wieder rabiater ist. Der Höhepunkt des Albums kommt am Ende mit dem 16-minütigen „Under The Tanning Lamp“: ein ruhiger Anfang mit unheimlichem Knarzen, Geblubber, plötzlich Sounds, die wie Sirenen klingen, vielleicht meint man auch, Streicher zu hören. Der Track gewinnt nach und nach an Intensität und Brachialität.

Von dem oben angesprochenen New Age ist auf dieser CD wenig zu hören, stattdessen ist „Snowblower“ ein Album, das die ganze Dynamik und Variationsbreite von Noise zeigt. (MG)
