Über die finnischen Fonal Records und das amerikanische Beacon Sound-Label bringt die Sängerin und Musikerin Laura Naukkarinen a.k.a. Lau Nau im November ein neues Album heraus. “Aphrilis”, von dem bereits der Track “Nukahtamislaulu” erhältlich ist, markiert eine Rückkehr der Musikerin zum lyrischen Songwriting sowie zu einem primär akustisch dominierten, folkig eingefärbten Bandsound, der auf gewisse Weise an die Zeit vor ihrem Fokus auf modularen Synthies anknüpft.
An den Aufnahmen beteiligt waren Matti Bye (Celesta, Synthies), Pekko Käppi (Jouhikko, eine in Finnland verbreitete Leier, die mit Bogen gestrichen wird), Hermanni Yli-Tepsa (Violine, Kontrabass), Topias Tiheäsalo (E-Gitarre) und Samuli Kosminen von Múm an verschiedenen Instrumenten. Inhaltlich dreht sich vieles in “Aphrilis” um den titelgebenden Monat April als eine Zeit des öffnens, was schon in der etymologischen Verwandtschaft des lateinischen Verbs “aperire” anklingt. “A fitting verb for the month of the year it is closely associated with — April”, heißt esi m Begleittext. “And while the images of plants and blossoms coming back to colorful life after a long, cold winter feels appropriate when listening to the rich and lustrous bloom of music on Aphrilis, another definition of open feels even more apt. For under the abundance lies the memory of times of austerity, the friction of hard choices, the acceptance that nothing is fixed and the future is unknown. This literal and metaphorical exploration of complexity and contradiction makes Aphrilis a multi-dimensional antidote for our troubled times, one that emphasizes the quiet and communal over noise and spectacle”.
