Die beiden Avantgardejazzer David Helm – Composing Improviser, Sänger sowie genreübergreifender Multiinstrumentalist – und Jozef Dumoulin – u.a. Erneuerer auf dem Gebiet des Rhodespiano – bringen nach einigen Auftritten in Kürze ihr erstes gemeinsames Studioalbum heraus. “No-Eyed Deer” verknüpft den Gesang und die gezupften Saiten des Kölners und das Klavier- und Fender Rhodesspiel des in Paris lebenden belgischen Kollegen mit einigen elektronischen Überraschungen und diversen zu Klangquellen umfunktionierten Objekten zu einem Mosaik, das vor originellen Ideen strotzt. Sollte sich hinter dem augenlosen Hirschen im Titel also eine Phrase wie “no idea” verstecken, dann kann es sich dabei nur um maßlos tiefstapelnde Koketterie handeln. Das Album erscheint am 30. Juni als LP bei Anunaki Tabla, dem Label für Alien-Jazz, Quantum-Rock and Low-Current-Electronica.
“What does it mean to actually follow your dreams? Are those dreams set in stone or are they ever changing? What are the sacrifices you are willing to make on the way? The one answer I got out of this work and the process is that change is inevitable. If we are privileged enough to live in a society that does not disrupt individuals by violence and supression, it’s up to us what we do with that freedom. If we have the choice, change in ourselves can be the most fullfilling and liberating thing if there’s a loving element involved. I am very thankful to Jozef for bringing all this trust with him from Paris that time. It enabled us to leave any sort of paradigm behind and form the sonic sculpture that is captured on this recording.” (David Helm)
