Nonclassical bringen dieser Tage ein Remixalbum heraus, das Versionen zu den beiden Komponenten enthält, die Dominic Murcott 2019 auf dem Album “The Harmonic Canon” veröffentlicht hatte. “The Harmonic Canon” basierte auf dem perkussiven Spiel zweier skulpturartiger Metallglocken, wobei je nach Spielweise und Teil des Instruments ganz unterschiedliche Klänge entstehen konnten. Ursprünglich wurde die Musik von dem aus Mari Yoshinaga und Garrett Arney bestehenden arx duo aufgeführt. Auf “The Harmonic Canon Remixes” überarbeiten vier Acts – Loraine James, Natalie Sharp alias Lone Taxidermist, Sean O’Hagan, John Mcentire – einzelne Abschnitte oder Grundideen des Albums auf recht unterschiedliche Art. Das Release erscheint als 10″ und digital.

“3 years after the release of The Harmonic Canon, Nonclassical is happy to announce a new series remixing Dominic Murcott’s work for double bell and metallic percussion. Originally performed by arx duo, the two-part piece won the 2018 BASCA British Composer Award for Solo or Duo. Sculpted by Marcus Vergette, the two bells are specially designed a semitone apart using finite element analysis, creating unique possibilities for harmonics and resonance. Loraine James’ effervescent remix ‘Zig Zags’ samples high pitch percussions whilst Natalie Sharp (aka Lone Taxidermist) highlights the resonance of the bells with her track “Harmonic Canonised”. Sean O’Hagan’s remix ‘Kennex Klymb’ combines intricate instrumental arrangements over the bells’ dissonant timbre and suspended chords descend into minimalist grooves in John McEntire’s reworking of Murcott’s work.” (Nonclassical)
