The Necks: Europa-Tour zum 30jährigen Bandjubiläum

“Forming in Sydney Australia in 1986, over the last 30 years The Necks have built an international reputation as masters of their own musical language of long-form improvisation. Each night they step onto the stage with no pre-conceived ideas of what they will play – they and the audience will go on a sonic journey that is created in the moment and in that room. They have produced 18 albums, their most recent “Vertigo” in 2015, and tour internationally annually, including occasional special projects and collaborations with Brian Eno, Swans, Evan Parker, Karl Hyde, Leo Abrahams, and others.

They have celebrated their 30 years together this year, with tours of Australia which included a first collaboration with acclaimed conductor Ilan Volkov and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the USA with sell-out performances at the Whitney Museum NYC, Philadelphia, Boston and Los Angeles, and an April tour of the UK and Europe which included a rare five-date UK tour performing on pipe organs (pipe organ/bass/drums). They will tour Japan for the first time in December 2016.

Their European November 2016 tour includes a return to Tampere Jazz Happening where they first played in 2001, dates at a number of their favourite venues including residences at London’s Café Oto and Copenhagen Jazzhouse, and new venues of Jazztopad’s National Forum of Music, Wroclaw, and the stunning surroundings of the ex-GDR Bauhaus-designed broadcasting house, Funkhaus in Berlin. On 20 November they convene at Bimhuis Amsterdam for a special celebration, The Chain Event, an 8-hour relay of continuous music, by solos, duos and bands made up of Axel Dörner, Xaviar Charles, John Butcher, Michael Moore, Michael Vatcher, Kai Fagaschinski, Michael Thieke, Magda Mayas, Ivar Grydeland, Christian Wallumrød, Ingar Zach and – of course – The Necks.”
