Der schwedische Künstler und Musiker Christer Bothén, der in der Vergangenheit mit so unterschiedlichen Kollegen wie Don Cherry, dessen Tochter Neneh, Mats Gustafsson und dem Fire Orchestra arbeitete, hat ein drei CDs umfassendes Album namens “Ambrosia” herausgebracht. Zusammen mit einem großen Ensemble für u.a. Stimme, Piano und Bläsern sowie Bothéns eigenen Beiträgen auf Bass- und Kontrabassklarinette entstand die trotz der weiträumigen, luftigen Akustik atmosphärisch sehr dichte Musik an unterschiedlichen Orten Europas, deren eigene Sounds und Akustik die Aufnahmen mit charakterisiert. Das Album entstand mit Unterstützung des Swedish Arts Council und erscheint bei Thanatosis.
Don Cherry collaborator and Bolon Bata founder Christer Bothén (b. 1941) delivers three CDs devoted to his highly personal expression on the bass clarinet and contrabass clarinet. To quote the artist himself: ”Those empty pipes have possibilities enough to cover several lives”. Sounds and silences are delicately carved out in different acoustic spaces, from a rainy soundscape in Spain to a peculiarly resonating church in Sweden. The album also includes a composition inspired by Tarkovskij’s masterpiece Stalker: focusing on the big clarinets, ”ZON” is composed for and performed by a large ensemble, featuring vocalist Sofia Jernberg, pianist Kristine Scholz and reedists Hans Koch and Per Texas Johansson, among others. It was recorded and mixed at the Stockholm studio Atlantis Grammofon, by legendary sound engineer Janne Hansson.” (Thanatosis)
