Der vielspartige Musiker und Künstler Richard van Kruysdijk alias Cut Worms bringt Anfang März das Album “Breath Mule” heraus und schließt so die 2016 mit “Lumbar Fist” begonnene und ein Jahr später mit “Cable Mounds” fortgesetzte Trilogie ab. Die sieben meist tiefdröhnenden Tracks basieren primär auf Synthie und Autoharp und wurden durch vielfältige Effekte in ihre vorliegende Form gebracht. “Breath Mule” ist als finales Cut Worms-Album gedacht und erscheint auf CD und als Download bei Opa Loka Records.
“Breath Mule was created in an equally intuïtive manner as the previous two albums. Again, Van Kruysdijk used an array of ingeniously cross-connected effects to manipulate simple electronic sources, mainly generated by a monophonic synth (Moog Werkstatt) and a circuit-bent autoharp (Suzuki Omnichord). He builds his compositions improvising from scratch without any prefab sounds, beats or loops and records them straight to 2-track in his studio.
Cut Worms’ sound palette is firmly rooted in the lower frequencies. As the droney, cinematic tracks evolve, their slowly unravelling, gritty sounds evoke the audio equivalent of brutalist architecture: Concrete walls of sound that are as majestic as they are elementary, yet intrinsically detailed when examined with a magnifying glass. The album closes with a poem by the enigmatic Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988).” (Opa Loka)
