Der norwegische Gitarrist und Multiinstrumentalist Kim Myhr bringt Mitte des Monats und somit rund fünf Jahre nach dem preisgekrönten Album “You | me” seinen neuen, “Sympathetic Magic” betitelten Longplayer heraus. “Sympathetic Magic” entstand mit einem hochkarätigen Ensemble an Gästen – Hans Hulbækmo, Michaela Antalová, Ingar Zach, Adrian Myhr, Anja Lauvdal, Håvard Volden und David Stackenäs – an elektronischen und akustischen Instrumenten sowie mit Gesang und transponiert den aus zurückliegenden Veröffentlichungen bekannten Stil in eine vielfach erweiterte, tendenziell songorientiertere Version seiner selbst. “With You | me, I wanted to create an ocean of sound, where the listener is surrounded by a myriad of elements that has equal importance in the music”, sagt Myhr und vergleicht das neue ALbum mit seinem Vorgänger: “I wanted to challenge this a bit, to push certain elements forward. The result is a more song-like kind of music than what I’ve done before”.

In der über weite Strecken kraftvollen Musik, bei der sich ambient gleitende Passagen und energiegeladene Rhythmik die Waage halten, spielt u.a. eine vor kurzem gebraucht erworbene Yamaha-Orgel aus den 70ern eine wesentliche Rolle. “It’s a brilliant in-your-face sound that brought an ecstatic quality to the music”, so der Künstler. “Playing around with this instrument, along with an 80s Roland Juno synth and a new drum machine took the music in new directions”. Inhaltlich betrachtet Myhr “Sympathetic Magic”, dessen Titel aus James Frazers bahnbrechender Monografie The Golden Bough entlehnt ist, als eine Feier von Hoffnung und Verbundenheit: “The music created a situation of unexpected positivity. It felt like a social project even if I spent most of the time on it alone. And all this positive, joyful energy felt quite magical, arriving like out of thin air in this otherwise grim situation. It all felt like a hallucination, which fed back into the music. Sympathetic Magic is like a dream within a dream”. Das Album erscheint als Doppel-LP, CD und Download bei Hubro Music.
